chronicity

Artist statement.

Chronicity is a compilation of painting, printmaking, drawing, and physical works that explore my relationship with myself and chronic illness. Representations of medical iconology in relation to the self, evokes viewers to sympathize with my experience, as well as empathize with the intense romanticization of doom. Here, I am the only figure represented across a variety of stages of life, thus, calling for the investigation of the “chronic” in a personal and literal sense. Works without figurative representations – menstruation products, medical scans, feminine apparel, and others – are personal, sexed, and often unified through the color red. Combined, this collection cultivates a personalized relationship with the illness, and reveals the self as the simultaneous protagonist and antagonist of the “chronic.”
